Cockapoo Grooming Prices UK: Stop Undercharging for Doodles

If you own a cockapoo and want to know what a groom should cost, the short answer is £50 to £65 for a full groom, with most UK groomers charging around £56, as of October 2026. If you are the groomer, the longer answer is that the same dog is still being booked as a "medium" at £50 all over the country, and that is costing you money every time it happens.

These are not survey numbers. They come from the live price lists of UK grooming businesses using GroomSlot, set against the size-band prices from our wider dog grooming prices UK report. Cockapoos, cavapoos, maltipoos and small-to-medium doodles are grouped as cockapoo-sized. Labradoodles, goldendoodles and bernedoodles are the large group.

What Owners Should Expect to Pay

  • A full groom (bath, dry, brush-out, clip, tidy and nails) is the £50 to £65 service above. Most cockapoos need one every six to eight weeks.
  • A bath and brush without a clip is cheaper. The few groomers who list one for doodles charge £32 to £38.
  • Puppy introduction grooms are priced to build confidence, not margin. Across all breeds they sit between £28 and £40.
  • London and the South East usually run 15 to 25% above these figures. Mobile groomers typically add £10 to £25 for coming to you.
  • A matted coat changes everything. Most groomers charge extra for de-matting, or will clip the coat short at the standard price. Brushing at home between visits is the cheapest grooming decision you will ever make.

If a quote lands well above this range, ask what is included. A teddy bear trim finished by hand with scissors can fairly be £90, because it is a very different job from a clip-off.

Why a Cockapoo Is Not a Medium Dog

On paper a cockapoo is a medium dog. It weighs about the same as a cocker spaniel and stands about as tall. On the grooming table it is nothing like one. The coat is a dense, curly mix of wool and fleece that holds water, hides knots and needs a full dry and brush-out before a blade goes anywhere near it.

The booking data shows the difference plainly. Groomers who list a cockapoo service typically book it for two hours. The same price lists book a medium dog for 90 minutes. That is a third more time on the table, before anything has gone wrong with the coat.

So the question is not whether a cockapoo should cost more than a medium groom. It already does: £56 in the middle against £50. The question is whether that £6 pays for an extra half hour, and it does not.

The Hourly Maths

Work it through at the middle prices and the typical slot lengths:

  • Medium dog, any breed: £50 for 90 minutes is £33 an hour.
  • Cockapoo priced as a cockapoo: £56 for two hours is £28 an hour.
  • Cockapoo booked as a medium dog: £50 for two hours is £25 an hour, and £20 an hour if the coat needs the extra half hour it so often does.

To earn the same £33 an hour from a cockapoo that you earn from a spaniel, a two hour groom needs to be £66. That is above today's typical range, which tells you that most groomers with a cockapoo price are still underpricing it, just by less than the ones with no cockapoo price at all.

The large doodles make the point from the other side. Labradoodles and goldendoodles sit at £75 in the middle against £60 for a large dog of any breed, a 25% premium for the same two hour slot. Groomers already price the big doodles as the harder job they are. The cockapoo gets a 12% premium for a third more time. It is the small doodle, not the big one, that is being undercharged.

How to Price Cockapoos Properly

  1. Give them their own line. A "Cockapoo and doodle full groom" at £60 to £70 is easier to stand behind than a vague medium price and a surcharge argument at the counter. Owners of these dogs already expect to pay more. What they hate is a surprise.
  2. Price by coat and condition, not just breed. A tight first-cross coat in good order and an overgrown, matted fleece are different jobs. Build your booking form around coat type and condition so the price and the slot length are settled before the dog arrives.
  3. Book the time you actually need. If you charge £56 but book 90 minutes, the price looks fine on paper and you are late for the rest of the day. Two hours is the honest starting point.
  4. Write the de-matting rule down. One line on your booking page saying matted coats are clipped short and charged a de-matting fee ends the awkward conversation before it starts.
  5. Check the number against your costs, not against this table. Our free price list generator does the comparison for you using the same live data.

Where to Go From Here

If you are an owner, £50 to £65 is a fair price for a full cockapoo groom, and the groomer charging it is probably still underpaid for the hour. If you are a groomer, doodles are now a large share of the dogs through most UK salon doors. The groomers who price them as what they are, rather than as a spaniel with a perm, are the ones not giving away an afternoon a week.
